Neurobiology Lecture (BIO 484)

The Neurobiology course is aimed to give a comprehensive knowledge of the human nervous system. Anatomical, cellular, chemical, physiological, behavioral and molecular aspects of neurobiology will be addressed. Some of the major topics that would be covered are; neurons and glia cells and their differences with other cells of the body, action potential, synaptic transmission, neurotransmitters, structure and function of brain and spinal cord, chemical control of brain and sensory system. In addition diseases related to each unit will also be addressed.

Active Learning Strategy: Debate currents events linked to course content

Debate Topic: Which has a detrimental effect on brain: Marijuana and Alcohol? No. of Students: 24 students Biology majors. Students were either in their junior or senior year of undergraduate degree Course description: The course is one semester and 2 and half hours of lecture every week.

About Tandra

Tandra R. Chakraborty, is Associate Professor and Director of the Biology Graduate Program in the Biology department at Adelphi University. She received her Ph.D. from Calcutta University, Kolkata, India in Biochemistry.

She did her postdoctoral fellowship at Mount Sinai School of Medicine on Neuroendocrinology and has taught at Sarah Lawrence College as guest lecturer. She joined Adelphi University in 2006 as an Assistant Professor.
